Special Events
New Comer Lecture – This has the potential of being something special. Each year moving forward the “New Comer Lecture” will feature someone who is unknown to the masses but will be a familiar name to those “in the know”. The goal here is to give someone a chance to get some of the recognition they deserve as an innovator/creator of magic. The identity of the lecturer will remain a mystery up until the time they are introduced. This year’s New Comer will not disappoint.
Social Jam Hour (Hosted by Eric Jones) – A few years ago Scott Robinson lectured at “The Second Deal” convention in Atlanta. One of the highlights was a session hosted by Paul Cummins that allowed everyone to share a move, trick or idea they had created or discovered with the group in a “formal” manner. They called it “The Move Monkey” session. With permission from Jason Alford we are taking the same concept and expanding it to encompass all of facets of close-up magic. Eric Jones will be hosting this event.
One Trick Pony Contest - This will be the fourth year for the One Trick pony contest and we continue to tweak the concept. This year we are keeping it simple. So what does the 2009 edition of “One Trick Pony” look like? Details are as follows -
· All contestants should do one trick/routine which should be
less than 5 minutes.
· The contest is all about originality and creativity either in
method, effect or presentation so all “entries” should focus on some/all of these areas.
· Most magic contests’ focus on “Entertainment Value” as the most
important judging category. Not the case with “One Trick Pony” - in this contest originality wins the day!
· We realize that our judges may not know what you added to your
“Ultra Clean” Triumph handling that makes it so great. In other words you may have fooled them! To help them understand the advances you have added, the judges will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide comments directly after you’re performance. This may require you tipping all or part of your method so make sure you are comfortable with that before entering. If you have any question on this aspect of the contest please contact Chastain Criswell at info@magicbyenigma.com
· We have great prizes! First Place will receive 3 nights’
accommodation (room only) in either Las Vegas or Orlando along with other prizes provided by Tony Miller at RFA Productions.
